Roswell Inc launches first community survey

Questionnaire open through July 31, part of larger outreach initiative

ROSWELL, Ga. — Roswell Inc, the city’s economic development arm, is casting its sights beyond small businesses by reaching out to the community at large.

Through July 31, everyone in Roswell is invited to take a 23-question survey about Roswell Inc and economic development as an industry. People who know little or nothing about the organization are especially urged to participate in the survey.

“Economic development is a team sport – it’s not just for businesses,” said Carisa Turner, director of communications and public relations at Roswell Inc. “It’s a very specific way to grow a city and it influences our overall quality of life.”

Roswell Inc’s work, for example, impacts the city’s tax digest and the options residents can choose from when they go shopping or visit a restaurant.

The survey is designed to get a feel for how familiar community members are with Roswell Inc and the services it provides the city.

“With businesses, the impact is very tangible,” Turner said. “But all of these things also indirectly impact the very culture, the future, of our city… We want to do a better job communicating our story with everyone in Roswell – not just the local business community.”

The survey in part was created to lay the groundwork for a larger communications initiative Roswell Inc plans to launch within the next year.

“It’s more about the residents, our civic groups, nonprofits and community leaders,” Turner said. “Up until this point, we have been primarily focused on communicating with business owners. They are our primary client, after all, because we do directly work with them to grow businesses or get new businesses to Roswell.

But now that we’re a couple years older, we really want to reach out to people in the community, because our work does impact our residents and community leaders, even if it’s in a more indirect way.”

Roswell Inc as an organization has existed for over five years, two as the Roswell Business Alliance and three as Roswell Inc.

When it started, it was membership-based, like most chambers of commerce, but it has since dropped the membership model. The organization now works with all businesses in Roswell.

These changes to the organization and its scope of outreach are another reason why they are launching the survey.

“What people might have thought we did four years ago may be different today,” Turner explained. “We want to stay on top of that and make sure that we’re communicating the most up-to-date information.”

The 23-question survey is estimated to take about 10 minutes to complete. It has questions on how familiar people are with Roswell Inc, what Roswell Inc provides and economic development as an industry.

Everyone who completes the survey will also be entered in a free drawing for a chance to win one of four $25 Visa gift cards.

The survey can be found at roswellinc.org/communitysurvey.
